What is a One-Pager?
Similar to the concept of an IEP-at-a-Glance, the One-Pager is a student-created single page document to provide current, relevant information about their strengths, interests, preferences and needs. The One-Pager is a PowerPoint document. Inserted into the One-pager is a photo of the student. Students will send out One-Pagers to their general education teachers so they can know more about them.
Getting Started
Think about a time when you really wanted someone - a teacher, a friend, a neighbor - to know stuff about you but you really didn’t want to have to take the time and the words to explain it. Think about your IEP. How long does it take for anyone to look at it and find out the important things about you? The One-Pager was created as a way to cut though all of that paper and get at the important stuff quickly and
all on one page.
all on one page.
How it Works
It has four categories: My Strengths, My Preferences, My Interests, and My Needs. You should identify these categories (with assistance from parents, teachers, etc.). Your one-pager can be used as a wonderful tool to introduce yourselves to new teachers, employers, case managers and others in our support system to clarify your needs and goals based on your strengths and interests. What a way to self-advocate!
How to do it
Use the template provided in the link. You can add whatever you like by typing, drawing, hand writing, or using picture symbols or objects. This is supposed to respresent you so you should choose what you feel is the best way to represent yourself.
